Weird cartoon in Wilmott mgz

November 13th, 2002, 5:38 pm

I’ve just received the first issue of Wilmott magazine, the free one. Very readable and highly informative magazine, of course. What was an unexpected surprise to me is that bizarre cartoon on pages 36-37. I mean, there was Prof Albert Shiryaev, one of the best lecturers I ever had (two years of highly concentrated Probability Theory course). Is he really that popular outside of Moscow? Buy the way, that cartoon prof doesn’t behave as the real one would be in similar situation

Shiryaev is very emotional person. He wouldn’t care about tax collection. Someone with a gun, asking about negative volatility, would probably first bring Shiryaev to a Homeric laugh . Then Schwarzenegger (or whoever it is) would listen to the colorful speech about the way he is supposed to leave the building. And real Shiryaev is a very tall guy.

How can you compare me The Collector with Schwarzenegger, I am insulted ! We both have big biceps, but he has no clue about option theory. >Someone with a gun, asking about negative volatility, would probably first bring Shiryaev to a Homeric laugh .Luckely for him it was only a cartoon, in my army days back in Norway I was number 2 in the country in pistol shooting (junior up to 21 years old), on a good day I could get 9 out of 10 bullets inside a circle the size of a eye on 25 meters, but dont worry I only shoot in self defence or to protect the King (or a beautifull women).
