I got an invitation for interview with BGI. However, really have no idea which kind of questions to expect. General attitude questions? Finance questions? Or math questions? Does anyone like to share some experience? Thanks indeed.

The softer skills thing is important to them - don't expect to see anyone outside HR until 2nd round (unless they've completely changed their approach since 18 months ago)

I interviewed with them for MBA internship recently . . . phone interview was with the hiring manager and was brutal. Technical questions on interest rate models, finite difference methods, etc. Onsite interview was with 5 different folks . . . again, the hiring manager was brutal . . . this time he tore me apart on Fama-French and Regression, even though the job was for fixed income. The other people hardly even interviewed me. In the end, I did okay, but was second choice (don't feel bad for me, I got a better job in the end). The main thing I learned about them was that they are really into folks with PhDs, and I am an MBA . . . they are not high pressure, fast-moving like other hedge funds. They are VERY research oriented, they love academic-types.I think that the exact hiring process will be very dependent on the hiring manager . . . he could have HR pre-screen candidates or he could interview only a select few himself. If you have some specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks... ... congratulations, ericlambi, you got a good job! I also heard that BGI love PhD students, that is why I apply for interships with them. So they asked you some technical questions in the first-round phone interview? I also interviewed with Credit Suisse and JPMorgan for internship, maybe because I do not apply for PhD quants position, so it seems quite easygoing and only some general questions came out. dj99, you mean HR will interview me rather than people in the group I am applying for?

I'm just wondering for what else positions they will recruit a phd? Or, maybe you are a finance/econ phd. if so, it makes sense.
