I recently found out I've been accepted into the MSc Financial Engineering at Birkbeck. I applied for full funding but was unsuccessful so now therefore have to find my own methods of funding. As the fees are c. £12k per year and i have no more than a few thousand max to contribute, i cannot see a way of going this year [I am unable to get any kind of funding e.g. personal loans etc]. Does anyone have any ideas of how to raise funding? I though that maybe some companies might offer some kind of sponsorship. Or perhaps the entry could be deferred until next year and i could try to save up b4 then. Can anyone help please? Many thanks,TJ

its a bit late now for this year, i'm very interested in pursuing the FE course at Birkbeck but just really trying to find out how i could finance it. i can defer my entry for 1 year possibly and try and save up 12k but that could be difficult. any ideas?

I am currently doing Birbeck FE and it is worth the price, just proposing you something cheaper with a very good brandnot sure about your background, but you can always do some back office in a bank. There is a big demand for bright people and the salary is high (around 15 pound an hour if you are temping) and you are paid double for banking holiday

Is there any problem with borrowing the money ?

yes, unfortunately i have exhausted my borrowing possibilities......i have possibly enough time to save up to take the course part-time £6k p/a, if allowed to switch modes of course, but borrowing is out of the question due to my extravagant student spending days.....that is unless anyone fancies lending me somewhere between £6k and £12k - it would be a worthy investment when i become a quant analyst.

May be you should take some risks yourself and gather all the money you can and then go to the casino or other betting places.

There ought to be a market for this sort of risk, certainly under British law such things are enforceable.A problem of course is tha you can leave the country, making collection really quite hard.Alas it can make you catastrophically unpopular, the IT press still gives EDS a bad time over the way they sued ex-employees for "training costs".Have you looked at the various government sponsored training loans ?

If I were you I would consider working and doing the course part time. By the tine finishes you will have two years work experience as well as the degree.
