Asset Management vs. Risk Analyst

QuoteOriginally posted by: vbprogrammerI work for a risk exposure software vendor as a quant on the west coast (Barra). I might be getting another offer from an investment management shop (HIMCO) related to credit derivatives/structured products. I have been only with my current job for 6 months and I would like to move to an asset management at some point in time. I am not sure if I am being hasty. The downside besides the short stay at current position is that I shall be only an Analyst at the new role ( I need to find out if their shop is hierarchial or if its difficult to move up the ladder). But, the plus point is I shall be close to the front desk and do some real work, with traders, etc.Can I seek some input? DCFC or any senior quant?I am not a senior quant nor DCFC, but still want to give you a little advice Judging by your previous posts, you're unhappy in your current role. Ok then, you need to find a new job. Then find one that you really really want. Make it worth leaving after 6 months (which is really bad). Right now it sounds like you're not even sure if you'd be happier in your new role.

It is probably like getting married. All that matters is that two people or a job and individual are perfect for each other in a reasonable way. I could probably spend more time looking for right one, but I might regret having left the given opportunity. No one can make a decision for me but I would like to seek opinions based on the firm / asset class specific information that I just provided
