The problem doesn't have an analytic solution, but that's ok if you don't mind using Newton-Raphson or something fancier. Check out http://mathworld.wolfram.com/LeastSquar ... fsets.html for more detail.

i have asked this question on a thread before, do a search on orthogonal AND excel, there is an answer.
