Questions about Bloomberg Financial Developer

August 20th, 2009, 10:57 pm

Hi everyone. I got through the online test for the Financial Program Developer and now have a phone interview next thursday. After reading other posts about the job seems like they're going to be asking me about C+ or Java. I don't have really know much programming language though. What should I do to prepare?

Questions about Bloomberg Financial Developer

I (only) have a BS in Physics (as a sidenote, from stalking LinkedIn accounts from Google and some assorted info I can find online, I have no idea how I got this far) and they said in the first interview not to worry, as long as I could demonstrate the ability to think like a programmer. I'd suggest looking up some CS books on Algorithms. Some of my questions I was asked were straight out of standard algo textbooks. Now I have the second interview upcoming, supposedly it's 1:1 and more technical, but does anyone else have any experience on this interview process? Care to share some helpful hints?

i suggest sitting down and writing one program in C+ to optimize small portfolio. Then you can have at least one working example to refer to.

Questions about Bloomberg Financial Developer

Do many Bloomberg developers make it onto working on desks as developers?I'm speaking to the Bloomberg API team tomorrow which should help progress to so called 'desk developer' roles at banks. I've been told such roles are as much about as interfacing with data vendors such as Bloomberg to get hold of data efficiently as much as it is about knowing how to write code efficiently to price instruments. My goal is to get onto a desk as a developer and hopefully impress enough to become a trader. I've seen this happen 3 times in my 3 year career.
