March 15th, 2010, 4:57 am

HiAll advices welcome! - im very lost, despite the fact ive been research this forum n on the internet nearly everyday but i am still unsure. I know ultimately i wana do MFE in USA but I am unsure where to start this journey. Many of you in this forum had already had many experiences so please give me advice I have just graduated from a bachelor ofbusiness degree majoring strictly in finance. I m doing GMAT preparations nowhoping to get into masters of financial engineering in good schools in USA.Can you give me some advise please? I talked to some professors and most areunsure whether if i should do an honors in financial maths before going to usato do MFE. One professor told me that in MFE, all the stuff in honors offinancial maths is already a part of MFE so it would be wasting time for me todo honors n advise to go straight to MFE.I want to become a highfrequency trader or a quant. Please give me some advise, and thanks a millionin advance. your advise will help me alot i believe. Thanks

What is a "honors in Financial Math"? You should either do a MSc Financial Math or MFE not both, way too much overlap.

Most business schools will accept you directly into a MFE following a BSc Finance provided that it was a degree with sufficient maths. You don't need another BSc.

But the thing is, in my BBus Finance degree, we didnt have anything called Stat 308 or papers called stochastic process, Real analysis etc. My papers were like "Financial risk management, international corporate finance, financial data analysis, financial modelling, investment portfolio analysis and the like etc"How can I prove that I have those maths skills, and I think I dont even have those maths skills although all my finance subjects were heavily based on calculations n maths. I dont know if I have the requirements. So I thought taking a postgrad in applied maths will atleast prove to admissions ppl that Ive met the requirements.

Hey Mazinkaiser,How about looking at a book aimed to introducing quant-world math alongside finance concepts. E.g. Wilmott's "Introduces Quantitative Finance". If you're woefully confused by this, you can try improving your maths skills by working through some more specific books recommended on this forum.I'm not sure that doing one year's Maths course purely do get onto a quantitative MSc is necessary or a good ROI.
