Hi guysjust a quick update on my career path: 8 years of rates derivatives trading, made redundant in 2011 and moved to be a rates market risk manager in Singapore. Adaptation was tough, at the beginning i tried moving back to trading of course, but over a period of more than a year i stil hadnt received a single phone call for a FO position interview. Was it/Is it really that bad? Maybe. With time, I've come to like market risk. I've come to learn a broader range of products, developped a more holistic approach to trading and risk management and my two years in risk + trading experience allowed me to take a job as Head of Market Risk in another bank and i am honestly excited about it. Now my question really is: is the current upward trend in hiring in risk management, both of ex-FO quants and ex-traders, worth a career change ? Or will the hype fade in 5-6 years when everybody has forgotten about the crisis and risk taking slowly starts to take the front stage again over excessive control ?Is a career in risk over FO the right move? Will the money follow? Is CRO the new top job to look forward to over the next 10-20 years? Or will it go back to a pure red taped supporting department in a few years?thoughts welcome... anyone who's done a similar move, pls share!
