Choice of Thread Titles

February 7th, 2014, 11:23 am

Every now and then someone comes up with a really offensive thread title. Even if it purports to be about some social cause, you question the intent. I recall a title of a thread in French at one time; this thread title was changed because some francophon members of the Forum complained. To some of us, it was funny, but the native speakers were not wrong. While I am not for censorship, it is better if people can show some common sense about things that are visible on a main Forum page; once you click on a thread, *maybe* you are on your own, but you should be able to visit a sub forum from work or wherever without concern. So I would suggest that abbreviations be considered in some cases. As an innocuous example, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is "UNHCR".The UN has lots of other acronyms for certain social and cultural problems as well.Thank you for your consideration.

QuoteOriginally posted by: edouardthe intercultural tool thread can help people from every country to better understand each other and live altogether in harmony. That seems a bit simplistic to me.However, a new thread title at the local saloon deserves an award nomination:Most Likely to Attract the Scrutiny of Three Letter Agencies.Hmmm, what does that mean? Maybe some people should take a reading comprehension test.Paul's most recent blog would be a good place to start.
