From quant to sports betting industry (and back?)

<t>Hi all,I was wondering if sports betting industry is hot nowadays. I have already made an app in C# that connects to a respectable betting broker and places bets (working as a freelance, in parallel to my main quant job). There is a chance that I will be offered a (higher paying) job in R&D s...

Capital adequacy role VS quant dev

<t>Dear all,I'd like to ask for info regarding capital adequacy roles in large banks. What exactly are they doing? I've seen that there is some relevance to quant roles but not a deep one.I'm asking since there is a possibility to move there while what I do for the previous year and a half is quant ...

Physics to Actuary to Quant?

<r>Hi, welcome to the forums.I got my MSc in physics from a US school, passed all the quals like you, started my PhD and then, for a very good reason, I left it, and left US as a direct consequence. I got back to a small EU country and started looking for actuarial or quant positions.Luckily enough ...

Should I do MFE in my situation (suggested by 2 HHs)?

<t>Sir, I haven't applied in banks so far because I am under the impression that they need risk analysis, option pricing and some other requirements that I have to study and\or have professional experience before applying. Also I live in a small EU country hence I should apply only abroad; positions...

Should I do MFE in my situation (suggested by 2 HHs)?

<t>Hmm I see. Thank you all. The reason #1 is poor payment and reason #2 is the fact that I slowly moved from quant researcher to quant developer and now programmer; covering aspects that should be covered by a new hire which never happened. I already found a job related to software engineering, it ...

Should I do MFE in my situation (suggested by 2 HHs)?

<t>Hi all,I hold 2 degrees (CS, exact science) and a MSc in physics, I already work as a quant for 1,5 year (medium to High freq), built from scratch a model (and then strategies based on it) that outperforms S&P, built execution algos for it, deployed it live, written OO code in 2 commercial an...

When is the right time to apply for UK Quant jobs?

<t>From personal experience: I have applied for some UK positions in the past months (I am an EU citizen), however most recruiters don't even reply. I don't know if the job market is bad or not, moreover the guys don't even provide feedback. I don't know if something is wrong with me:I hold 2 degree...

Life cycle of a Quant

<t>@MattF: Seriously, wage is not that good?'Enough quant devel jobs' in the City, how much % of those can be found through HHs and job ads? What interests me most, and was the underlying reason for posting this thread, was to get info about quant jobs long term security from seniors. Cause I started...

Start out on my own or join a prop fund

<t>Hi and welcome. My experience is short, less than 2 years. However I think I can help a bit. I started from scratch, didn't have any capital, built upon a model from applied physics, did extensive backtests and built around 15 strategies out of it. I selected the most promising one and after 10 mo...

Life cycle of a Quant

<t>Hi all,A question especially for the most experienced members of the forum: for how long quants remain useful within a fund? How long is a common lifecycle? What about later, in their 50s? Do they move to a more managerial position? How old are 'senior' quants? Why am I asking? Career choices: I a...

Applications for US job roles from non-US citizens

Thank you for bringing this into my attention. I do hold a MSc from a US institution, got it in 2012. I guess that US employers already know this feature of H1B visa but it doesn't hurt to briefly mention it into my cover letter.Guess that it is too late for 2014, since April has passed.
