Lay off record vs. severance package

<t>Well after debating about this in my head, I decided to try the HH route and got myself an interview at Goldman Sachs (Prime Brokerage Division) next Monday... not sure if I submit my resume directly it would have worked as well as my HH said he "talked me up there". Does submitting your resume directly to IB ever works?

<t>DCFC,Hmmm I would think a firm like GS which doled out $16B for salary & bonus this month wouldn't care too much if they save $50K on a headcount hire... you saying they do care and that if two candidates are roughly equal but one comes from a HH and one comes from direct submission the direc...

Does submitting your resume directly to IB ever works?

<t>I almost submitted my resume directly to a few banks like GS and LB (either thru some friends already working inside or thru their website), but then some HH guy called me saying that he works with both firms and wanted to talk to me about some opennings there. Inevitably among the first question...

Two ways of doing this: via HH or do it myself by going to one of the competitor IB's website, follow the career link and submit your resume there. Two ways to think about this: 1) IBs prefer usin...

Can't get my gamma right via MC simulation

<t>>What data are you using? You mean what kind of RNG am I using? It's Boost MT. I got both of your point about non-linearality of the hedge parameters, thus I shall re-program it to consider both ends and see how that turns out.Another question: I read somewhere that a good MC simulator should conv...

Profiting from two securities that are correlated?

<t>Correlation trading happens all the time. Example: pairs trading, or even convertible arb can be considered correlation trading (long convert and short equity as there is a positive correlation between the two, *usually*). The thing to keep in mind is what Wilmott said in his book: "Correlation i...

Where to live near NYC

<t>Yes you do have to pay the higher of the 2 taxes. Here is the general rule of thumb: if you live in state/locality A and work in state/locality B, and A has higher tax than B, then you pay B first and pay the difference to A. If A has lower tax than B then you pay B first and take a credit on A, ...

Popular IR Trading Models / Indicators

<t>I just finished browsing the book "An Arbitrage Guide to Financial Markets" by Robert Dubil and in it he listed several "common" IR arb strategies used on trading desks (some of which are briefly outlined below). I just wonder how common they really are as "common" usually means little or no arb ...
