Is millarassociates trustworthy?

A few months ago one of their employees sent me an unsolicited email pitching candidates for a role for which I wasn't hiring, in a different area to the one I cover. Suffice to say, I won't be keen on seeking their services in the future.

MSc programs - what do they teach??

<t>QuoteOriginally posted by: ChicagoGuyThey teach you how to be risk neutral, or at least it seems like it. They dont teach you simple bond math, but instead the mathematical tools you need to understand the models and research in math finance. In math, there is nothing interesting about 0.01% x 10...

MSc programs - what do they teach??

<t>I've recently interviewed a number of students from some of the top FE/Math Fin programs and I was amazed at how even though they apparently had a solid grasp of probability theory (although mostly on a formulaic level and not as much on the intuition behind the concepts) they knew absolutely zer...

<t>She's old? Man, what are you talking about!?!? She ain't even 40 yet. If I am allowed a financial metaphor: these days the curve is very flat - just like in the bond markets, there's lots of appetite for the long end of the curve, which is trading much tighter than it used to and often outperform...

CMU is not rigorous?? Steven E. Shreve teaches at CMU. He is one of the greatest probability theorists in the world. Pick up his and Karatzas' book "Brownian Motion and Stochastic Calculus" and let me know if you think that's rigorous enough...

computer gear in London

<t>Regardless of the directions to it, the Dixons in the CW mall is so tiny it's not really worth a look unless you need consumables or the such. For peripherals and components I am quite happy with ebuyer.co.uk , whereas when I bought my PC I checked a couple of oem retailers that I had seen advert...

Need Advice NYU v. Bocconi

<t>QuoteIt's too obvious to think about it further. Go to New York, unless you think you have a chance to get on well with the Italian mafia in London later on... If they give you a chance to transfer - for this to happen you will need to be accepted as one of them. I see you mention the people, wel...

LSE or Kings

<t>I think that's exactly the point, in my humble opinion what you study matters more than the name of the institution. It also depends on what you want to do afterwards. If you would like a job where you do regressions of the macroeconomic data, then go fo the LSE. But if you'd like a career in qua...

what does a structurer do?

<t>My two cents:there are some businesses like tax trades and balance sheet trades that are extremely non-technical (and non-quantitative) in the conventional sense, but rather exploit loopholes or comparative advantages between different law, tax and regulation systems. The trading (in the sense of...

Books the a junior IRP trader should read

I would go for "Pricing and Hedging swaps", by Miron-Swannell, Euromoney publications. It's much more practical than the Fabozzis, and I reckon you ain't gonna care much about the convexity and all that stuff in your future job anyway.Regards,R

Puzzle: Middle Office at Large Bank->TRADER at same, Who(m) here has actually done this?

<t>In a bank I used to work at, I remember at least 2 persons upgraded from BACK (not even middle) office to trading, and at least two from risk management to trading. In the bank where I work now, there are a few who used to do middle office jobs and are now traders. It's not a myth, smart people do...
