Bond Equity Correlation with equity

<t>Barclays agg bond has both govt bonds and corporate bonds in it. Govt bonds are negatively correlated with equity, while corporates are positvely correlated with equity and vix.Monthly probably is a factor of which one is overpowering the other. During 2009,2010, the equity/credit rally was prett...

PM fixed income HK or Singapore. Need Advice.

<t>Not sure if this is the right forum as it's mostly quant/risk oriented (my take). But since I've been trolling here and getting great nuggets of information in the past, I thought I'd give it a try.I've been working as a portfolio manager (managing and trading) on the corporate bond/credit desk f...

Singapore or Hong Kong?

On point 1. I thought there was a decent expat community out there. Would not knowing mandarin really be that big an issue?

Asset management what

<t>IB's a different ball game, unless it's asset management in an IB. Then it's just asset management. "Everyday" is so random a term. But as a quant it'd probably involve working with PM/Trading on benchmark and portfolio issues. Optimising, matching, strategising. How do certain bets payout or don...

Singapore/HK fixed income?

<t>so not knowing mandarin won't be a hindrance? (Twofish: you mentioned in a previous reply that not knowing the local knowledge would be a definite no no for a job in hong kong. What about singapore?)Also, singapore HF's/Asset management firms buy US/European bonds in sing dollars or USD/EUR's? CA...

Singapore/HK fixed income?

<t>If I was a corporate bond portfolio manager/trader in the US for an asset manager, would it be relatively easy to move to Singapore/Hong kong?I know singapore is more fixed income focused than hong kong, so better chances there - but a lack of local market knowledge might hinder options. Or is lo...

corporate bond new issue premium/discount

<t>I'd be interested in that, if you find it.Doubt new issue would be offered at a premium (higher price) to existing issues. And in terms of impact, the spread most likely moves closer to an average between existing and new issues spreads, on the break. After that it's market psychology as always. ...

Bond portfolio management

<t>Hi, if I wanted to learn bond portfolio management (managing and trading a portfolio for an asset manager say), what would be a good book to pick up. Something a bit more advanced than basic bond knowledge/strategies.I can only seem to find "Advanced Bond Portfolio Management" in the Fabozzi seri...

Difference between Strategist and Trader

<t>Well barny, as everyone's been trying to tell you and as I'll also try, is that it's not as black and white as you feel it is. But you probably know that, but don't really know how grey the grey really is.The thing with any role is that you become narrowed and a little specialised in it. It is in...

Risk role leading to a risk manager designation in 1 year. It'll be on credit risk, ALM, VaR analysis and communicating to the li...

A naive economic forecast/vision

<t>It is true that the Know how takes a while to develop in other countries. But that is assuming other countries want to develop exactly the same know how. When Rome fell, the empires that replaced it had different ways of working and functioning as is evident in the US and UK now. Perhaps the new w...

Efficient Frontier (Bond portfolio)

<t>Hi, I have a Corporate Bond Portfolio with which I'm currently trying to figure out how to reach an optimal allocation between different sectors. So what % of the portfolio should be financial, Industrial or Utility holdings (assume only 3 sectors to play with). If I use a benchmark to compare wi...

FRM

I agree. Both are the same really and even if one is more quant than the other, in the ends it doesn't matter. Employers will look at PRM or FRM as the same. It's only the FRM and PRM holders who would bicker. It's but natural.

-----------Think of it this way, Michael Schmacher may not be able to build his F1 car, but would you rather have him drive it or his mechanic ?----------That's just brilliant. I'm going to go now and use it.
