J,I use Mathtype and find it to be ok. However it's only a thirty day trial. I'd be interested if anyone else can offer something more permanent.

Population Puzzle

Aaron, Very interesting. Do you know what is causing the response (in the population sex ratios) to the social and physical stresses or is this more of an empirical observation by you or others?

Population Puzzle

<t>If I remember correctly from an empirical point of view, the prob is not fifty fifty but the probability of a boy is slightly greater than 0.5. As it was explained to me this may be due to men being the risk takers and a few will take too many risks and die. Does anybody know how counties like Ic...

Actually found that reference. It was in Jackel's Monte Carlo methods in finance pg 19. I also see my point about the typo was incorrect.

Random Number Glitch in VBA

<t>It might just be a typo on the post but I think your missing a s on the normsinv.Wrt the sum of 12 rand number minus six I remember reading about some problems with the distribution of this but can't remember in what book I read it. It could have been Advanced modelling in finance using Excel and...

<t>PlainVanilla I had wanted to say 41 (or 40.8333 as gregoryv got)My change of heart on this answer came when getting an uptick from 1 UUUU4 DUUU6 DDUU4 DDDU1 DDDD (not possible) the probs change (I think!). Having picked out an U actually increases the prob of being in the UUUU. So there is a nice...

the grainy chart

<t>Beginning to strongly believe my reasoning was spurious. When the uptick is drawn it would be replaced by an uptick or downtick with equal chance. I thought the possibility of replacing the uptick with a downtick would shift the probabilities in favour of the next result being a downtick but I thi...

<t>Agreed - I also think they have a particular weakness in central defense. Stam looks to have lost a yard or two of pace and pace was never Frank DeBoar main strength (if he plays).I like Spain though. I think they have found a few good young players since the last tournament (Vicente, Torres, Alo...

<t>Just wonder what everyone thinks of the Holland's chances?Saw them play a friendly against a experimental Irish side at the weekend and they really looked poor. The Irish shouldn't have been too much of a challenge but Advocate played with both full backs pushing really far forward and left the t...

Are markets efficient?

<t>kr-I would like to thank you for the warm welcome to the Wilmott forum and especially for the homework on the first day. EMH says that agents process information accurately and immediately after it becomes available, preventing arbitrage profits from use of this information. If current & past...
