Who pays for the master?

JP Morgan: $7500 Annual Cap, with a two year clawback period (if you leave less than two years after completing a class, you owe some % back).

strategy II:non-zero sum game

<t>It seems that the answer must depend on your utility function. For example, if the player does not care about risk, then we maximize expected value by betting our entire bankroll on every trial. However, players with sufficiently high risk aversion will heavily penalize the zero-wealth outcomes, ...

Binary Option Question

So the price of the contract depends on whether or not the market believes in global warming. So much for quant finance

Reverse Optimization

<t>Does anyone know of a good resource on reverse optimization? By this, I mean taking the outputs of an opitimization problem and calculating the implied inputs. One example of this would be backing out the expected return values from an optimized portfolio. This is not difficult for an unconstrain...

Intern housing in NYC?

<r>It's pretty late in the game to be looking for summer housing, as all NYU and Columbia dorm rooms will be spoken for. One reasonable place to look is on the Craigslist sublets/temp housing board.<URL url="http://newyork.craigslist.com/sub/.Hope">http://newyork.craigslist.com/sub/.Hope</URL> this ...

Advice on Transition into a Quant Career

<r>QuoteDCFC, please elaborate. If 40 is too late to start a quant career, how about 35? Have you met old quants -- I mean in 50s. According to the Mathematics Genealogy project, Pat Hagan got his PhD in 1979, which probably puts him at about 50 years of age.<URL url="http://www.genealogy.ams.org/ht...

Averages of Time Series Data

<t>QuoteCould you elaborate on what naive method you tried? The method I used is actually quite similar to the one in that paper. One thing I'm a bit confused by: the Ljung-Box stat they use is able to detect autocorrelation with multiple lags, while their method of adjusting for autocorrelation only...

Averages of Time Series Data

<t>I've run into the following situation with regards to some time series data. My situation is that I have a series of daily portfolio excess returns, for a 10 year period. Let's say I calculate the annualized tracking error of this portfolio in two ways:1. STDEV(Daily Excess)*SQRT(252)2. STDEV(Mon...

Western Asset Management

As someone who works as a quant for a traditional asset manager, I would second the notion that this won't get you where you want to be. There is pretty much no interaction with traders unless you're in a group that runs money (and thus needs to trade). The RFP group is no exception.

Can experience be a negative?

<t>Hello Wilmotters,So here is my situation: I work as a quant at a traditional buyside manager (think a CSAM-like place). Unfortunately, due to the way large portfolios such as these are managed, I don't get any exposure to the more quantitative / derivatives based / higher frequency strategies tha...

MS Math Fin and Jobs Afterward

<t>Hello board members,I'm just trying to get ahold of what kind of jobs are generally available to graduates of these programs. For example, if one were to graduate from the program with no full-time prior work experience, would they expect to enter a bank as a first year analyst? Alternatively, if...
