Lehman Equity Quantitative Analytics

<t>hi vbprogrammer, the manager is not a finance phd. he seems to be from an engineering background and is extremely smart.my own background is a PhD in physics. what i want to do is a bit less clear, i'd say as a first step i want to be in a more prestigious group than i am right now, and/or get pa...

The Quintessential Quant

i suspect this article is an image-sustaining exercise by DE Shaw. i've met quants there - no different from front office quants at any top IB. i think they do earn more though which really helps them in retention. besides, it is an all-geek place so the density of assholes is lower.

career change from academic to industry, is it the time?

<t>I would say if you are planning to work in any of the english speaking markets, make a very strong effort to improve your english: spoken, written and presentation skills. Your technical ability is probably great, but I have seen many many people from China unable to move beyond a certain point i...

MBS/ABS research position

<t>I have a phone interview coming up very soon (in 1 day) for a quant research position in the MBS area. My working experience is however in equity exotics. Can someone please give me an idea of the type of questions that may be asked? Both "soft" intuitive questions and the harder technical ones. ...

What math should I know to be a Quant?

<t>If it is a bank trying to get you to work on a research problem for free, well that's not a good sign. It is very likely they are just fishing for ideas or seeing if they missed something. Happened once when I was first looking for a job, worked hard on a problem, sent them the results and never ...

Citadel or tier 2 IB

<t>ok, perhaps they are tier 1.5, in the US. my definition of tier is not too serious here, just that you tend to hear mainly of goldman, MS, lehman, JP and citigroup as the most prestigious in these parts. by prestige i mean "what opens more career doors when written on your resume, all else being ...

Citadel or tier 2 IB

Suppose someone had an option between Citadel in Chicago or a tier 2 bank such as UBS or CSFB in the NY area. Which is better from a prestige and future career point of view? Assume, salary is similar adjusted for cost of living.

Sex in the lifts at Goldman Sachs

I could believe that. Probably they are also attempting to crack down on the rampant workplace homosexuality induced by the arse-kissing culture.

What math should I know to be a Quant?

<t>Maybe the EE-generator software is bundled with physics and mathematics. Package deal. What about chemistry - N you are seriously neglecting that discipline. Let me have a go - "Alkalide monosyntheisis violates the Sp(4) construct from photonic diffusion which of course proves that stochastic cal...

ronwise: this is computer-generated physics, of course there is no math behind it! he he, put names of Lie groups, Sp(4), Lorentz etc together in a grammatically correct sentence and voila!

<t>i am wondering if N has an automatic word generator that creates "physics sounding" sentences. i believe they have something like that for computer science and someone even got a paper published because presumably the referees had no time.angular momentum is conserved not just in three, but four ...

What math should I know to be a Quant?

<t>there is no number of bosons that can ever form a fermion. two integer spins J1, J2 when added can only produce another integer spin between |J1 - J2| and |J1 + J2|. unless of course a "N"ew theory is being proposed here overturning conservation of angular momentum and equally bad, the spin-stati...

<t>I don't know what Simons uses. Neither does anyone else I believe. However, you can be quite certain it is not something out of a quantitative finance textbook. Simons is a real scientist and he employs real scientists too, preferably without wall street background. I would guess they build real ...
