Seed Money

<t>Can you turn the question around? Can you back out how much do you need to ensure that the fund can operate effectively and build a realistic track record. eg Look at how many positions you will have in the fund, what is the minimum investment in each stock (eg due to exchange round lots), what l...

Please advice.

<t>Unfortunately the type of work you mention is a cornerstone of a lot of strategy/research jobs - this type of analysis is used to get the senior guys in front of clients and ultimately generate revenue. The senior guys need someone to do the work...As for getting out of this cycle, as DCFC says y...

Major statistical software?

I would say matlab then splus.Others are used, but these seem to be the main ones. Of course there is also the ubiquitous Excel if that counts.

Excel Developer

<t>I've seeen and worked on some very robust trading applications written in excel - impressive what you can do with it (with a little bit of knowledge). The other useful thing is knowing how to call DLLs from VBA - typically useful for integrating analytics packages.Does the Excel SDK and XLOPER stu...

How quant are asset mgmt groups ?

<t>Gmike hits the nail on the head. The strategy groups are usually only advisory groups in nature - they get to produce trading strategies and market commentrary etc, but rarely put these into practice. From my poin of view this can be rather unsatisfactory. There is a big difference between recomm...

ISINs and SEDOLS and Databases

<t>I wouldn't go down that route for the simple reason is that Isins change. As do sedols, tickers, bloomberg etc. This causes untold amount of fun. The best route to follow I have found is to store the time series using your own internal identifer (which can then stay static) and use a mapping/dime...

how to apply for jobs small financial institutions

<t>They certainly do exist at smaller institutions - I ran a scheme for several years. However, due to the smaller scale they are not as prominent as a the bulge bracket places. Try the recruitment agencies and the jobs boards. If you have an area you would like to work in then you can always search...

Quant Equity Strategy Phone Interviews

<t>I don't know this group that well and it will depend upon the level of the role. If this is for a stat arb position, then the list above is probably accurate. If is it more orientated towards portfolio management then I think they will also be likely to ask about equity quant strategies. eg why d...

duplicate resume to the same group

I always go with whoever submits first gets the business. If the candidate is good then I see no reason to reject them because I get their cv twice.I guess the recruiter is trying to ensure that he/she has exclusive rights over your cv!
