Seriously...does someone know if previous salary history is some info that a current or former employer would provide if asked to by a potential employer? Is this state dependent or is it federal?

Does anyone know if previous employment check done as part of the background check by a professional agency would uncover salary history also? If that is the case, then how do candidates get away by saying incorrect salaries in interviews?Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
