Quant and Risk Management Roles in India / Singapore / EM Markets

<t>Emerging markets are not created equal. I am not sure I would consider India an emerging market for sales and trading. The interesting stuff there seems to be Real Estate and good old IB. Singapore yes, could be quite an interesting gig. Same for Russia, Brazil, South Africa, though in these thre...

HELP intern offer decision: Morgan Stanley or Knight Capital

<t>Tougher to get does not necessarily mean better. Assuming that your FT offer will come from the internship it boils down to starting at a HF versus MS + later move to a HF. tough call man... I'd go with my gut. QuoteOriginally posted by: dagdacI'm having a really hard time deciding between two in...

RBS Rate Strategist VS Two Sigma Research Engineer

I wouldn't touch RBS with a 10-feet pole. If you had a similar offer from a good bank, then there would be a decision to be made. In this case however, there isn't. Go to 2-\sigma.

Becoming trader after Ph.D in Finance?

<t>Many banks would consider PhD's for their sales & trading intake. Try applying to those. My sample and naturally biased observation is that PhDs in finance either go to strategy or to prop trading in banks. It is also common to see them as PM in hedge funds. It is neither unusual to see finan...

Job advice: Barcap Structurer vs. UBS Rates Quant

<t>what does a quant for treasuries do?anyways.... to offer a different perspective. Structuring is a hit and run job, meaning you do this for a few years and then quit. The hours are long and it involves a lot of grunt work, especially if you are a junior. Also structuring can mean different things...

How to determine when to call a callable structured note?

If the issuer is the bank's treasury, there might also be a breakup funding spread, not necessarily when you call, but for instance when you unwind the node due to some trigger (eg: MV or credit trigger). This compensates treasury for the adverse funding environent.
