A question about the offer letter

<t>I am not sure whether this is helpful or not, but I know for a fact that there is at least one other person who has had a verbal offer for the same London job you are applying to (this is the FICC one right? - trying to crossreference with other posts you made). They might well be looking to make...

Final/Initial condition problem

If you transform a BS PDE into a heat equation the 'time' variable effectively runs backwards, hence a final BS condition will be an initial heat equation condition.

Salary for GS front office

Ok well first of all the HH will take nothing from you, but from the bank. So you don't need to worry about that. You should really discuss this with your HH. Have you been sent any paperwork yet?

Suggesting some books

<t>Hull is definitely something you should read, but probably not cover to cover. I has everything in it but no real theme that leads you through it. I would use it more as a reference book.A good introduction might be Baxter and Rennie: Financial Calculus - this book is very martingale-focussed, wh...

Ranking the bank : Share your view own view

<t>The problem with ranking is always that it doesn't tell you whether the difference between two entries in a ranked list is significant or not. For all we know the error bars could overlap hugely between two of them and it is likely to be the case considering how different lists give different ran...

I'm looking for a financial math tutor

<t>Differential equations (at least the ODEs), probability and linear algebra is all fairly standard undergraduate stuff and here are a host of books out there. You might not even need books, just google for some online lecture notes on these topics.PDEs and Stochastic Calculus is slightly harder, t...

I was merely translating the previous post into something more obvious. There was no mention of 800 candidates, but only 8. vbprogrammer might well have been better than either of the other two.

Imagine you have 8 boxes, and are tasked to find the two with the largest amount of money inside. Do you stop after only opening 7?

Goldman Sachs and Slang

<t>I agree with DCFC here. Try a google search for Slang (the language!) and you come up with pretty much nothing at all. That is a sure sign that it is of no use to the outside world. The question you have to ask yourself now is, do you want a longterm career in GS. If you do, all is fine, learn Sla...
