SAC has job posts up at some schools for quant analyst. They do currently at mine. They just must not want resumes from the public?

Secrecy on the job?

Depends on the place. people at GETCO apparently share everything (which is why they can't have interns--they would see everything) whereas a lot of other shops have a lot of secrecy between groups.

In what position do MSc students enter? Analyst or Associate?

They were both hired into quant roles, but not in s/t or strats. they were hired into the big quant hedge fund, the one that houses global alpha.

Machine learning quant group?

Check out Jump Trading. I know for certain they do a lot of machine learning stuff. They even specifically look for students during recruiting that have taken a bunch of classes in the AI/Machine learning track in CS at Stanford.

I personally know at least 2 PHDs at Goldman that recently started as analysts. I have no idea if they can be promoted more quickly or whatever, but they definitely started as analysts.

Special Goldman Strat teams

I wasn't trying to claim that the "desk strat" roles are bad, but for me I just don't really like that they are supporting traders and don't have their own p/l. So the fact that the teams that I referred to below do have their own P/Ls is a big plus in my view.
