He did good! I managed to watch the back nine after my own (slightly less successful) round, and it was about as riveting as golf gets. I was mostly cheering for a playoff, just to see more of it. Too bad for Rosie, but he’s a big boy and seems to be managing just fine.

As the town found out the last time, once you're in you're not getting out until the days events have ended. The only ones to really benefit the last time were the hotels. The real value was the "media exposure" which was a pluck out of the air figure of about £10m.

Anyways we have the "da bikes" first in May :) #NW200

Team Europe braced for 'Monty at Brookline' mode with Donald Trump and New Yorkers await

https://www.rte.ie/sport/golf/2025/0924 ... line-mode/

The most eye-catching story of the build-up was the disclosure that the European players have been practising with the 'aid' of VR headsets, which are being programmed to simulate the crowd abuse they expect to be coming their way in New York.

The notoriously loutish New York sports crowd are expected to provide us with an atmosphere akin to Luton v Millwall, circa 1985.

Well this is gold! I honestly wish I'd thought of this as a startup idea. I'm not a golfer but I'm still pretty annoyed at Tiger Woods buying out a perfectly decent cinema in St Andrews to create a "sports bar"..... :(

US fan ugliness at the Ryder Cup was merely a reflection of Trump’s all-caps America
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/ ... ry-mcilroy

Given the guest of honor’s well-known aversion to losing gracefully, it was hardly a shock that the ugliest behavior broke out just as America’s chances were slipping away. But the tournament’s response to the ugly crowd behavior on Saturday was woeful. Extra security and a phalanx of New York state troopers materialized around McIlroy’s match at the turn. A couple of spectators were ejected near the main grandstands. The PGA of America said it bolstered policing and pushed more frequent spectator etiquette messages on the big screens. Fine, as far as it goes. But once a thousand people have decided a backswing is their cue, you can’t manage it with a graphic and a frown. Enforcement has to be swift, visible and consequential or it becomes permission by another name.
