Cassette Software Life Expectancy?

November 12th, 2019, 10:40 am

I just did some house cleaning and found my old cassette with my business designer software, just a program I made to make 3D charts etc in 1985 about (my largest programing project back then). The question what is the likelihood the software is still there intact? Is it worth trying to extract it? Or is it almost for sure gone?

The cassette has been stored in room temperature for about 35 years. Visual inspection and the tape looks good!

So yes what is the life expectancy on cassette stored software? (Tape reader, band width looks about 4mm?)

This is the last copy of this software, is it dead or alive (probabilities pls)?

You can use some datasette emulator to transfer the data. https://www.luigidifraia.com/c64/dc2n/index.html

thanks, looks like I will be able to order it. Business designer could come to life again...well it stands to see if the tape reader can read the tape!
