Just read the thread about CF/FE jobs being outsourced and had an interesting (well depends on your perspective) first-hand: was interviewing some guy from JP Morgan in NY about an IT job openning and off-handly mentioned studying QF/FE because so many back-office IT jobs were being exported and he said at JPM they are beginning to exploit/implement off-shoring of QF/FE positions. Basically some of the Indian folks would work the SAME market hours as their US counterparts and some will work-overnight and JPM trading desks will be covered either way. Most of these are quant. programmers and not pure quants and JPM has not done it in a big way yet, apparently it's still kinda hush-hush for now.I think it's just a matter of time before whole trading desks are being setup overseas. I hope not but I doubt that won't happen.

It makes perfect sense to have back-office outsourced to places like India. I dont think front office will ever be moved to India because you still need to attract clients and such like so for rest assured, Wall st will never die

I pretty much agree with that. Wall Street is one of the most expensive places to do business in America, so people have always looked at cheaper places, even when they're a few miles away.However the decision is based upon granularity and how the unit interacts with the rest of the business. To me that means the top and the bottom are most able to relocate. The reason I include the top is that really bleeding edge stuff might not interact usefully with the rest of the firm. There is also regulatory arbitrage where it may be cheaper to perform business in one place because there are a lot fewer forms.

in order to avoid NY withholding tax, all legal docs for our new deal must be signed in New Jersey... good thing the boss is a commuter! another thing is that the face-to-face people are travelling a lot anyhow... we have a lot of this variety in our operation, and believe me, we do not spend NY office rents on thema few years back, there was already a stratification of the various quant/tech jobs... we had multiple office locations within 10 mins. walking distance, and since some had Wall St. addresses there was already a difference in cost of real estate. So, the less-presentable types got moved to the less-prominent office space, out of the main buildings. That way, if you suddenly discovered that it was a mistake to be without some particular individual, the situation could be remedied. The punchline is that more and more jobs got moved to the undesirable buildings, away from the action. Once you've taken that step, why not go further?

Going forward Markets would be operating 24 hrs.with 3 shiftsclients for a region may not be available for other two but maybe local investors might have interest.If it's Electronic market place why not.
