I have an interview for sales positions, so I think it might be interesting to have some feedback about that

What annoys me most about sales is the dishonesty of the sales people.

about what ? pricing ? complicated structures ?I believe that if a sales does not act properly with a client, he ll lost him. Otherwise he might get a lot of cash from a stuff he sold, but that would be a one-timer

as someone who is in sales, i think sales guys break into two different categories, the screwers and the solution guys. Screwers focus on one or two deals in the future and rip off clients because they know that short run they can make alot of money and then jump to another bank and start with a new batch of clients. The solution guys try to understand a clients needs and put things together in a long run relationship approach. You can be successful using either approach, but the solution guys tend to jump from bank to bank less, but when they go they can take a large number of clients.

I entirely agree with jaiman. But I do not think that the screwers can do that for long times. Generally sales are divided among geographic clients or products, so in spite of the thousands people working in the financial markets industry, people are talking and it might be common knowledge than Mr X the Screwer can bring in a lot of money but for a short period.... he also endanger the bank's reputation.

The only exposure I've had to sales people is those selling banking systems. I think the same comments apply.

QuoteThe only exposure I've had to sales people is those selling banking systemsfor example, a lot of them are ex traders. I think they can move more easily between IT Companies. However it would be interesting to compare money involved in both

He also said that even it might be unpleasant to say that but that was the best he could give.I wish you good luck and am eager to know your comments one day.

I think it really depends on the product you will be sellingif margins are low, there will be a lot of fierce competition between colleagues to catch volume, and the environment will likely be unpleasant for a beginnerso my advice is to follow the one universal rule in finance: go where the money is!besides, there are a number of assholes on the trading side also...e.
