Clinton's Gift to Internet Age - Only 2 E-Mails - LOL

January 27th, 2004, 5:08 am

My sarcasm gauge just went off the scales. This is to say the least, embarrassing. From Yahoo news.QuoteClinton's Gift to Internet Age - Only 2 E-MailsThe archives of the Bill Clinton presidential library will contain 39,999,998 e-mails by the former president's staff and two by the man himself."The only two he sent," Skip Rutherford, president of the Clinton Presidential Foundation, which is raising money for the library, said Monday. One of them may not actually qualify for electronic communication because it was a test to see if the commander in chief knew how to push the button on an e-mail.Former Ohio Sen. John Glenn has the distinction of being the first American to orbit the Earth and the only person to receive an e-mail written by Clinton when he was in office. The e-mail was sent with the help of Clinton staffers to the space shuttle while it was in orbit and Glenn was a part of the crew. It praised Glenn for his return to space after almost 40 years.Rutherford said Clinton, who relished the chance to speak to voters, did not make time to send e-mails, even though Internet usage exploded during his presidency."He's not a techno-klutz. I don't think President (George W.) Bush sends e-mails, either," Rutherford said of Clinton."Most of the decisions in the Oval Office are made through decision memos," Rutherford said. The 40 million e-mails of the Clinton administration are almost exclusively comprised of memos, notes and correspondence among his aides and cabinet membersThen as now, Rutherford added, Clinton was more apt to write personal notes or telephone than communicate through e-mail.

I commend him, and Bush, for never using e-mail. It will be a sad day when the president of the USA sits there typing e-mail. E-mail, and all things internet-ish (including this forum) will go down in history as the biggest collective time dissipator for the largest number of people in all time.I'm leafing through H. F. Baker's book on Abelian Functions, first appeared in 1897, and one of his many books, and wondering where people like him got the time to work all of this out and to write it down on paper? And I'm sure he had a family and teaching load and everything. Well, he didn't spend half his working day surfing the net.

One must aknowledge that President Clinton contributed to the spread of the Internet by (unwittinggly) providing the underlying material to lots of funny e-mails and humour websites.

People expect too much from Clinton-Gore administration. It's not even enough for them that Gore invented the Internet! Clinton is a genius, he probably typed directly in binary into TCP/IP packets -- that's why he never needed to send e-mails.

One of the great things at this site (don't know exactly where, sorry) is the cartoons they have of the tennis player Amelie Marresmo (sic) being interviewed. They make her look like Sylvester Stallone (as Rambo, basically). It is hysterical even though I don't understand a word!
