BOX - Boston Option Exch - any experience ?

February 11th, 2004, 12:20 pm

I just wondered if anyone has experienced the launch of BOX the new american option exchange, beginning of Feb04. Are you trading through a broker ? or direct link ? Has it been time consuming and mind bogging ? How liquid is the market really ? Have there already been some profitable trading opportunities ? Any info would be very much appreciatedKlink

BOX - Boston Option Exch - any experience ?

Ken, From talking to a few of the guys and gals that I know that trade on the BOX I have heard mixed thoughts. Its not like the ISE. Its more liquid, and the games that the upstairs guys/firms play are quite interesting. Basically it has come down to a similar trade as the futures game. The edge is basically gone and unless you have an exotic model, or are notionally hedging intermarket spreads it can be quite difficult. From talking to a pal in New York the position trade is quite nice because of the liquidity, and trading across the US exchanges isn't bad. Basically the BOX has allowed to split the martket down to pennies. Thus the firms don't have to worry if they can't get splits of splits done at the exchanges. Then again he also has boat loads of firm cash to play with. Also if you want to check out the broken down volume you can check out the OCC's website. Best of luck, Cheers, MURNZ

Oh also I have heard that for a little guy the expenses can be quite high to trade on the BOX.
