My Coke Mountain...

March 1st, 2004, 8:48 pm

...keeps getting cleared away by the cleaners. It's reached 7 cans today. Also, I am concerned on a number of fronts:* The joy of more fillings;* The amount of sugar I am consumig on a daily basis (>5 cans/day).* My genuine addication. I crave Coke in the morning; actually crave it. I'd like to quit in the future.I find it's served best out of the can and at a temp. of about 1C (which is a delicate operation to achieve - you've hit it when some ice forms in the can).

You are one sick man. But then again, you remind me of the guy in operations that plays with sql and c++ all day. He would actually have a box of coke cans underneath his desk that piles up. The cleaner lady always think is full because it is in a box and somehow it keeps growing and growing. Barely has any leg room underneath his desk and goes through 5+ cans of coke a day also. I am glad I just drink 2 bottle of water a day and get to throwt he bottle away.

I've heard of Diet Coke being addictive and sat next to a guy who drank 7 cans a day... but you're doing well. I used to have one at 7:30am with my bacon roll.... now I have one sat in my 9 o'clock lectures.

We also have these free drinks provided by a firm called Klik I think. Anyway, I one tried getting a really BIG stack going, but they pack tightly on top of each other. I managed like 50 cups over many days and believed the cleaner and I had an understanding that she would NOT remove them. Sadly they disappeared. There was no where to hide them either. I doubt I could manage this much Coke and that much liquid. I'd have to replace my chair for a toilet.I never used to, but now I find Diet Coke really dull. Doh.

London Pete,I can sympathize. I was up to 2 cans a day and it was killing me. I quit recently, cold turkey. Gave it up for Lent. Now I feel much calmer and have much less little aches and pains. That stuff is really poison. Can't say I don't want to down one right now though ...Let us in on your trials and tribulations should you decide to quit. Could make for a good thread.

Seriously, I would like to quit. My rear teeth are screwed. I can 'feel' sweetness and cold when I drink Coke because of small pores in the enamel of my teeth (a bad bout of sensitive teeth).Anyway a little annecdote. I was working really ridiculous hours about a year ago and REALLY couldn't stay awake. I would have cans and cans of Coke, Redbull, I would take about 8 pro-plus during the day and even took eye drops/eye baths. After a few days I had to stop all the Caffeine because I was getting really, really, really fucked up. My upper torso would just start involuntarily lunging forwards and backwards every 10 minutes and my body would twitch all over. It was horrible - I was behaving like some Glaswegian heroin addict, in a suit.

There's a teeth anecdote too.I'm sure this is the REAL cause of my thin enamel. When I was an undergrad my teeth weren't bad - quite a good set, not yellow, straight etc, but I wanted perfection. So I was in the supermarket shopping and saw Pearl Drops, I'd heard they were good for super whiteness. I thought, hey this is great. I checked the case and it didn't mention warnings about abrasiveness so I assumed it was some bleaching forumla that was used. Out came the new electric toothbrush. I can easily remember just holding the electric toothbrush over my teeth with Pearl Drops in my mouth. Fucking idiot fresher.

dude - i reckon that any of that teeth whitening stuff's gotta be bad news.on top of losing your teeth, all that sugar is going to make you pretty fat too unless you've got a sky high metabolism- you look like a skinny monkey from your photo so maybe you're ok. I know a couple of people who've shed a couple of stone pretty much by cutting coke out of their diets. i get a monster headache if i don't get a caffine fix by about 9am, but i've switched onto coffee - a bit better for me i reckon but it hurts to pocket a bit more.

comming off "coke" is harder than it sounds. i used to drink somewhere between 6 and 10 cans a day at work, starting with 2 cans for breakfast, then at least a share size bottle at home or, if im out and not on the p1ss - a few glasses.caffeine is supposed to keep us awake but i actually slept better with my nightly dose.what got me off it in the end? - actually not any sort of concern about downsides for my teeth or health, just that i'd probably reached saturation point. i guess my central nervous system just said "caffeine aint stimulating me anymore" so no more point.just prepare to feel like sh1te if you give it up! i havent tried it but perhaps Pro Plus pills could fill the void on your way down?! upto you if you crush em up and snort, or just down em, obviously with a swig of errr coke?!

I matched them pint for pint, but I was drining coke.....After the 5th pint my stomach siezed up and I couldn't walk....I was so ill the next day.....No take my coke in moderation, and I've since moved on to Iron Brew....the taste of Scotland

The best feeling in the world is waking up thirsty with raw, cold, Coke burning its way down your throat. It's nice to know other people got over the problem. Coca-Cola Drinker Comunity:"*I NEED my Diet Coke. I drink far too much. It is the elixir of life. How sad is it that my youngest child simply calls it "Mommy Pop"? If I run out, I have been known to send my oldest child down the street with change to the Coke machine outside the liquor store. I am a terrible parent. I don't remember when the habit overran my life""Hi, I'm a huge Coke fan. I think Pepsi is the nasty stuff ever. I have convinced my subconscious to the point where, if I do drink Pepsi, I can't keep it down.""I love coca-cola. I drink about 4 cans of coke a day. When I go through coca-cola withdrawal, I am the meanest person that you'll ever meet.""So I got this coca cola crate for christmas"This people have worse issues than me!

okay, you need some advice from someone who's been through that.First of all, you all pale compared to me: I used to 6 liters a dayof Diet Coke, sometimes more. That is approximately 18 cans.I can relate to patch22's story, the caffeine didn't have an effect after a while. As a matter of fact, even nowadays, caffeine has no effect on me whatsoever. It's as if my body has learned to metabolize it (I'm sure it's not, but the effect is the same). Now, I don't drink Diet Coke at all... I drink Diet Fanta or Diet Sprite. Reason: Coke contains phosphoric acid as a preservative/acidifier. My body just didn't react well to it after years of abuse (Fanta or Sprite do not contain phosphoric acid).Coming of it wasn't that hard at all. I drank it for the taste. Now I drink sprite for the taste.Oh by the way, anything containing that much sugar is essentially ridiculous. If you drink it, go for the diet version (they taste better in my opinion). In a few years, I'd like to know whether you have the same problem with the phosphoric acid... be interesting to see.Regards.
