My $0.02:Basis trading isn't the hot area it was a few years ago, largely because the Debt authorities in various countries tired of having their bond markets thrown into turmoil by regular futures squeezes, and took steps to prevent them, which took a lot of the fun and profit out of basis trading. Now I guess its just a regular trading job in a fairly unglamorous area. The more important question that you have to answer is: trader or analyst.I'd suggest if you decide to go the trader route, and basis trading doesn't work for you, it would be easier to make a lateral move to another trading area than it would be to move from analyst to trader. So fundamentally, you have to first decide whether you want to go the trader or analyst route, and then home in on subcategories.
