early start... canadian internships

June 23rd, 2002, 3:27 am

Hi all,Has anyone here had any luck in getting a summer analyst internship in Toronto in the past? I am looking to apply for work next summer between my undergrad degree and masters. Being an engineering student, I may have to 'prove' to the banks my abilities when competing against friends in commerce. Would getting a cert in "Canadian Securites Course" or writing the CRM give me a relatively big advantage to get into first round interviews? The CSC looks kind of cheesy; and their website is full of MBA marketing speak... the CRM looks a bit more technical and quantitative, although I fear it's passing rate. I will be writing the CFA level I for sure, but that will be into the summer. Thanks for any help!

Hi J,The CRM is the Certified Risk Manager certificate offered by PRMIA, formed by people who split off from GARP, the group that offers the FRM (financial risk managment cert...) It is relatively new, so I guess it is not that well known, so I doubt it will help me in any way if I take it.However the CSC (canadian securites course) is fairly well know on Bay Street. It is much easier than the CRM (quantatatively speaking), so I think that some employers might not respect it at all. My problem is trying to get a summer job with no experience in the finance industry; I just want to make it in the first round of interviews
