how to find the right program

July 14th, 2002, 4:17 pm

Hi, I am a junior majoring in economics and math in a libreal arts college. I'm very interested in quantitative finance. I am wondering if you could tell me where I can further my study in quantitative finance after I graduate. I know some universities have an operational research and financial engineering program, but it seems to me I have to be an engineering major in college. Is that true? Would you please recommend me some programs? In terms of career prospects, will it be hard for me to find a job after a master degree in quantitative finance if I don't have any prior working experience? How about Ph.D in finance? Does a Ph.D degree only prepare you to work in academia? I'm more interested in working in industry. Which degree is better, Ph.D or Master? Thank you very much.

i'm kind of sort of in your boat, except that i'm a senior finance major (with strong math background). I have a lot of the same questions as you. I would suggest just reading the previous posts on this forum as that would be an excellent way to get information about what you need. This is definitely a great forum with very intelligent people and there is a lot of info, but you just gotta search for it. good luck.
