Was offered a performance analyst position recently - any good and where can it lead? It was with a investment management house - I get the feeling it's a dead end path!

A foot in the door is almost always a great platform to launch your career.Do good work enthusiastically and you are a prime candidate for transferring to a different role post your performance analyst role.

I guess the question is where are you coming from, where you at and where do you want to be - if you have a good degree with some quant element, you want to be front office and you're not desperate for cash you need to really understand this role - most performance analysis is real low level stat slice & dice and manipulation and is, as you say, a complete dead end.

if you can leverage the position to display relevant skills (math, programming, investment knowledge), then it can be good. otherwise, very much a dead end. very back office
