Resume Length and Contents

January 3rd, 2005, 5:14 pm

Hi all:I have over 15 years experience in the software design, architect, and programming areas with a PhD in computational mechanics. In May, 2005 I will have completed my studies in quantitative finance at the master's level. With my experience, would it be advisable to submit to prospective employers my resume as two pages. And if so, would the financial instruments, quant models, algorithm methodologies, and software technologies that I know be appropriate to list. This list will become rather large. Thanks.

IMO, two pages is appropriate given your experience. However, while I would not list quant models or financial instruments, I would certainly list software technolgies and programming languages.

I have to second ndane's opinion. Absolutely place technical skills on the first page. This section should include all of the software and programming languages that you know. C++, Visual Basic, Java -- these are the ones that employers may consider "prequisites" for the position -- if they aren't on your resume, they won't read it.-rwp2101
