BSc Finance / Risk Management - enough maths to work in quant?

March 5th, 2005, 9:11 pm

Hi all, I was just wondering whether in your opinion it is possible to start working as a junior in a quant team with a finance background. I will start in the (rotational) analyst programme of one of the big IB this summer and am trying to find out what my chances are to get into a quant team. I've taken some optional courses in statistcis and econometrics / forecasting (incl. basics of ARCH / GARCH, Neural Networks) but don't know much about programming (will do an oo-course before starting there though). I'm keen to learn more maths / stats, but is that possibly enough to start at a quant desk, or do they only take BSc / MSc in Maths/Physics/Engineering from top unis? Thanks a lot.
