Finance Student Seeks Advice

September 11th, 2002, 4:41 pm

I have recently stumbled upon Wilmott in my search for Derivatives forums, pages and job listings. I am currently an undergraduate senior studying Finance in Pittsburgh. Last year while studying at City University (London) I became exposed to the large world of futures and have acquired a unique interest in the world of derivatives. I have a very basic knowledge of options, futures, swaps, forwards and am actively seeking a mentor who can help introduce me and lead me in some directions that he/she feels would benefit a “newcomer” the best. To start, I would love to hear what you feel are the best sources of starter material on these subjects and what jobs I should be looking for to pursue after my final year.I already have two Options books, which I am reading while finishing coursework and attending classes:-Options as a Strategic Investment, by Lawrence McMillan & Lary McMillan-How the options markets work, by Joseph A. WalkerHope to hear from a few of you!Dan

Some of the best intro books on options I know are:"Option volatility and pricing", 1994 by Natenberg"The new options advantage", 1995 by CaplanIf you're interested in the industry I would also warmly recommend:"F.I.A.S.C.O" ,1997 by Partnoy.Cheers.

I read the book Fiasco By Frank Partnoy - It was fantastic book. discussed all the shady structured products created a sold to investors - ripp offs. in once case a bank structured and lends the money to the investor to buy it. it remindes me a bit of lewis's book "Liers Poker"
