ok. so, i'm going to start applying to some of these associates programmes (working in parellel to find another way in). and i'm going to target tokyo. (tokyo? why, tokyo you say? well, thats a subject for a different day.) in the mean time, would anyone be so kind as to talk about their experience with, desires to work for/quit, or whatever relating to trading (in whatever market you are familiar with) especially related to the tokyo business entities of these or any other firms?from the milk round presentations, i've gotten some feel for the London business of these firms (minus GS which hasn't showed up yet), but if you've seen my other posts, you'd see that i don't think i have much of the true storey. that's why i'm looking for your input.thanks in adv. for your comments.

Hi capital,I worked in Deusche Bank group Global Market Division during this summer in Tokyo. At that time I was in JGB bond trading group. Because I haven't worked in U.S.A nor London so I can't compare my experience with another location's work. But let me tell you how it was like. I worked from 6:45AM till around 7:00PM and my mentor(Junior trader in JGB market) worked from 6:30 so if we want to be in a trading floor we have to be ealry birds as we know. And my managing director said that quantitative finance is not well established in Tokyo branch still compared with NY.... There are 50% non-Japanese people and 50% are Japanese. But when it comes to JGB bond almost all of them are Japanese. They said that there were some non-Japanese trader in JGB market but they blow up because of the difference between U.S treasury and JGB. (JGB yield curve is lumpy so to say... because clients prefer high coupon bonds) And if you don't speak Japanese perhaps you have to take Japanese language courses offered in Investment banks, though we don't need to be so fluent. One of my class mate had summer intern in Merril and he said that working there was very similer to working in U.S.A.(but he was not in trading floor) Currently I am also going to find a job in Tokyo though it is kind of hard since I am in NY. ( I am studying quantitative finance in NY.)Ksdt.
