November 16th, 2005, 3:45 am

dude, say Mr. A gets a Ph.D. in statistics and wrote a thesis whose topic is credit risk. His supervisor is very well-known. Can he get a faculty position in a business school in the US?

It depends on what Dr A can offer. Can A teach anything that a business school wants? Does A have the potential to publish in top journals ?It also depends on what A wants. Is a low-grade bus. sch. acceptable? The identity of the supervisor may be of less value to A than A may believe.

Yes this is possible. I know one prof. who has a phd in statistics and do some great work in credit risks in a business school. However he had masters in economics if i am not mistaken.

Teaching in a business school is dfferent from having a faculty position in a business school.I am thinking if a Ph.D. student in STAT who wrie his thesis is close to finance rather than statistics can get a faculty position in a business school.
