Andover is not exactly the most happening city on the face of the earth, but it's not the worst place in the world to live.Whatever you do - don't go NEAR Basingstoke - that really is a horrible place. Salisbury is considerably more civilised (The statistic of "this town has more pubs per capita/area than any other town" is a much abused one, but Salisbury apparently does have a claim on it). You should also be able to find plenty of gentle hiking in Wiltshire - but watch out for the Army firing ranges !
