Could somebody in the know tell me what is the best way to apply for entry level positions in hedge fund?So far I only know headhunters can be a little bit helpful.I am also considering making cold calls myself. But I even have difficulty in finding out who are really the reputable one. Is there any place that I can find out those hedge funds that are playing in the champions league? Please tell me and I am very grateful.

personally, i've done a few applications for entry level positions at hedge funds but not really expecting anything positive. from what i gather, entry level positions in hedge funds are rare to come by (assuming you are talking about entry level undergrad?) but a good place to have a dig around might behttp://www.hedgeworld.com/not sure if it gives good rankings but it'll give you a bit of an insight to the names of the big ones.

just adding some questions here:My subjective impression and guess as an outsider is that, in general, hedge funds tend to look for experienced quants, as it is a more entrepreneurial environment than the big banks. One probably needs a rare combination of trading analysis skills and do-it-yourself attitude. But, I'd really like to hear the inside view: Is there a flow of experienced brain power from banks to HF or vice-versa ? Any parallel effects to the late '90s IT start-up hysteria ?By the way, has anybody heard of the swiss hedge fund Olsen Ltd, who is willing to comment from the career perspective point of view for entry-level postgrad quants ?Apart from this, I've started stocking up my wardrobe with bermuda's to prepare a eventual life on the "same name" isle. after Mobpsycho's hallelujah on an off-shore HF in another thread, Bboy

You may want to check out Glocap.com. They seem to have a lot of listings for pre- and post- MBA positions at hedge funds. In general, the hedge fund business is not well-known for its training programs. At the entry level, your value proposition is greater to resource-constrained start-ups than than to the "champions league" - so you may have better luck at the smaller end of the hedge fund spectrum.Good luck!

Great resource there...thanks. What are your thoughts about someone going from a hedge fund-of-funds analyst to a hedge fund analyst? Tough transition I know, but what extra tools would seem to make sense?
