Keep in mind that a QF masters is only a good use of time if you get a job afterward. This is true even if the program is free. In other words, don't choose programs solely on the basis of financials. A free QF masters paired with a so-so job afterward probably won't make you happy.

Rrolack is right. If your finance is good enough to do a PhD then you should be able to work out the net present value of slightly better earnings vs a free PhD.

From what I have heard on another forum, I think cornell may offer some aid.I also think CMU offers some aid, but it's program has a very high initial cost, so this is kind of negated.I think most "2nd tier" schools will offer some sort of aid, although I dislike using that terminology.

I think a great program can probably help to secure a quant position in the long run if you are good enough. Again, like DCFC said, reputation of a uni is very important in the eyes of recruiter.Personally, I think University of Ulm from Germany offers great value and tuition fee is low. My question is whether CMU graduates are 100% placed in the quant field? Similarly my question goes to NYU, Imperial and so on....

Personally I would go with the best program possible. With quant's income, it only takes a couple of years to pay back the tuition. And a degree from a prestigious school will be with you the rest of your life.

But if you have the right skill set (PDE, SDE, Monte Carlo plus strong C++) and can spend considerable effort to prepare for the interviews (puzzles, finance reading etc), you will get an offer sooner or later.
