Amazon Sales Ranks

July 4th, 2006, 11:33 pm

Does anyone know for sure what the sales ranks on Amazon truly mean? It can´t be lifelong or even annual sales, as for instance the Da Vinci Code is around number 100. I am guessing it must be sales numbers for the previous 24 hours, updated hourly. What is truly amazing is how certain books can jump up and down thousands of places in a matter of minutes. Also interesting to see how some derivatives books do really well in the overall rankings.

I don't know how it's done, will ask, but won't hear back until August...That being said, in Britain (and some other countries) "Top 10" lists and "recommended" are simply services that the bookstores sell to publishers.I think Global Investors, who run the Wilmott bookshop should do a couple of lists, like best selling this month and best selling this year. Maybe even best selling ever.
