Database Schema & IP

Is a company's database schema it's intellectual property? Thanks.

Yes.It is a non trivial expression of an idea.Thus at the very least it's copyright.Possibly it implicitly includes a unique business process, so can be patented in some places.Also, it's possible, (though rather unlikely) that in the DDL it has some patentable coding technique.
