maths GRE score for Stanford/Chicago

January 13th, 2003, 2:45 pm

Gurus,I have 9 yrs software work ex and 99 percentile in general GRE in quant and anals. How much do I need to score in maths subjectGRE to be sure of getting admitted in Stanford and Chicago. I took mock math subject GRE test and I think with current preparationI should be in 90-95 percentile range. Do I need a 99 percentile?99 percentile will be difficult I will have to get the topology and real analysis problems correct(never studied that stuff in undergradsand 9 years out of school in job I have forgotten lot of maths). There doesnot seems to be good preparation materials for maths subject GRE. It sucks!! Gurus please suggest good prep material for maths subject GRE. I want some books or notes which teaches tricks to solve problems and not thetype which has hundred pages of theory and little problem solving. I want to get 99 percentile with the least amount of work. I am very lazywhen it comes to studying and with the fun life that new york offers itis very hard to pick a book and study(better spend the time in dance floor).

Samudra, Is the 99% in the maths General an older result? I am asking, because I took the test a month ago and for scoring 800/800 I just got 94%!!!!Moreover, can anyone of the forum members comment on how much attention Unis pay to GREs when people have market and /or research experience, like samudra does?regards, Anton

the good book i found is Peterson's study aid. There is a another study guide I am forgetting the name now but will let you know. Try to getting the model test paper by ETS( one test isavailable in the ets website but there is a bookwhich has 3 Q papers which is out of print). The problem is lack of test papers. When I used to prepare for exams long timeback in India I used to learn techniques and try to solve problems. This is the fastest and offcourse the most lazy way to get good score.
