How much education do you need to trade exotics? Is a regular undergrad degree good enough or is an MSc/PhD needed? Would it increase your chances if you had an MSc/ PhD?

You need to understand the models derived by quants and use themfor dynamic hedging over the life of the trade as well as P&L calculationsof the structure. You wouldn't need a PhD but a Master in Maths or Scienceis necessary

you need common sense, a logical frame of thinking ( does not necessarily mean solving equations or understanding a series of random equations that deriv a model) and more than anything else an intuitive understanding of the risk and how it could be hedged. any bank you work for any team you work for will not necessarily have the same models. all that you could learn from your teammates quant team guys etc . As a trader you need to understand risk , how to hedge it and more than anything else take positions smartly.no rocket science.
