Two summer internships - which one?

May 15th, 2008, 11:54 am

I am a year away from finishing a PhD in Maths and I was offered two summer internships for which I would appreciate any feedback. One is at the macroeconomic analysis group of a major Central Bank. The work will be both theoretical and computational in macroeconomic forecasting models, particularly in business cycles and growth models. The other is at a top-five i-bank in interest rates. The usual PhD-quant internship. What do you think? Thanks.

I would say it depends what you want to do after your Phd (and what you have done before). If you plan to go work on the buy side then I would be tempted to choose the Central Bank.If want to work in the sell side I would defo choose the Ibank. If you have already done an internship in an Ibank I would chose the Central Bank.Overall the safe bet (ie you dont really know what you plan to do next) is to go with the IbankJust my 2ct
