What it means when a Bank does this..

May 31st, 2008, 9:17 pm

They flew us to London for interviews in March. We were told to expect an answer by Mid April. We are yet to hear anything as yet. No amount of reminder emails have helped get a response either. thanks.

Do not be shy and give them a telephone call. Do not feel afraid. Tell them, that you had problems with your incoming e-mail server and want to hear their final decision ))

This set of interviews was through our program at the University, there was no HH involved. There were 7-8 of us invited to the interviews, flying across the atlantic to London.Well we have actually emailed and asked them plenty (2-3) of times, each time being asked to wait for a week more, and then its the same, nothing!

Ah, yes I probably can guess which firm this is.If I'm right, there simply is no point hassling your (probably) future managers they are not enjoying this situation one little bit. However I can see that you do not want to be forgotten, so a gentle approach is in order.First up, start the paperwork where you can. Your probably qualify for the British highly skilled migrant programme. There's two reasons for this. The first obvious reason is to get on board as quickly as possible once they've sorted their own lives out.But be aware that there is an implied race condition here...There is not going to be some magical unblocking of the pipe, rather you should leaks that can work to your advantage. At some random point in the future, a random subset of you will have the opportunity to actually get hired. The leak may quickly shut, so the hiring managers will tend to grab those who they can get in the door before the portcullis comes down and crushes their outstretched fingers. If you're the one who can get on plane today and start monday, this may put you ahead of people at least as well qualified as you. There is even less point hassling HR, I've spoken to the HR people I think you're dealing with, and like everyone else in their line of work they are working very hard indeed. Also do you think HR jobs are any safer than any other non-revenue generators. But you can at least get your paperwork a bit nearer the top of their workflow. Also to keep dialogue going with your new boss, use what as a headhunter I learned as the "assumptive close", phrasing things as "when", and "which", not "if".They're probably sick of your complaints about the job shit, so instead change your language to "what sort of things should I be reading to get up to speed ?".They may suggest papers or books, or at least stop seeing you as so much of a pain.If you have an idea what you will be doing, then it won't hurt to suggest things that they can pass comment on your reading. In all markets, at all times it is always good to be seen to hit the ground running, so this preparation has value. If they don't respond to this either, then learn Excel. Again. But do it properly this time. It's a good way of getting your visible productivity up when you first start.
