Internship opportunities for a PhD student in Finance

December 19th, 2008, 11:12 pm

I'm thinking of industry career path (as opposed to academia) but I don't have any real world experience (other than teaching). How can I find a summer internship opportunity or something similar that will give me a head start? Don't worry about the time spent away from doing research. This is a delicate topic that I can't discuss in the department as it is assumed that everyone will go to academia. Any suggestion is welcome! Thank you,

Internship opportunities for a PhD student in Finance

Hi, I'm doing a PhD in Theoretical Physics but also looking for alternatives to academia after graduation. I've been reading the basics of financial engineering and think that I would enjoy working in this field, however without any real experience is really hard to be sure. Is it possible to find interships in the financial industry appropriate for someone with my background? Thanks.

A good way is to try to meet people from the Industry and talk to them. I am still involved in Academic conferences and last September somebody asked me for an Internship at our desk.I made it happen for that person. The personal contact is vital. I wouldn't start taking in Interns on a regular basis, unless I knew them, but this could just be me
