Keep the faith.Keep applying for ALL positions which remotely match your qualifications.Keep reading the finance stuff so when the interviews do come you will be prepared.Take a temp job if necessary. It will keep you busy and pay the bills.Do you need H1-B visa sponsorship? Maybe that is causing the problems because many companies are still not willing to sponsor H1-B. Maybe try for an Engineering job. It may be easier to get H1-B sponsorship there than in Finance.

Why dont you apply to trading firms - not necessarily for a quant position but for a trading position? Look up firms like Jane Street, CTC, DRW and SIG.

qf, how many resumes have you sent out? I've only sent 4 (all within the last week) because I want a chance to alter my resume in case there's a problem with it (instead of burning out all leads at once). They've all been to recruiters advertising on the usual sites (efc, phds.org). Will soon apply directly to the big iBanks (or whatever they are nowadays).

When I was looking for my first job back in 2004 I sent 150+ resumes and spoke to 30+ HHs. All to no avail. Even back then it was hard to get an interview without prior experience (and I did have a green card back then). I've been on the market several times after that and in my my 4th job now. It was never easy, dude. So go to interviews it's helpful (since based on the questions they ask you'll know which areas to brush up on). Don't take it too seriously and don't take rejection personally. Don't know how big of a problem is H1B, all of my friends who needed one got it without any complications but it was a few years back (before the bailout). Best of luck!I got my first job after 4 months of searching. Bloomberg JOBS<GO> was better than any job websites back then, since some of the jobs on Bloomberg were real. Not sure as to how it is now, since I haven't been on the job market for a couple of years....
