This depends how you look at it. If you take the historical view things become rather different. The british empire has included both the US (at least the eastern part) and Canada. If we add those to the gold that the UK actually won in curling last night then ...


Also, using similar logic we can add the medals of Norway, Finland, Estonia, Poland and (if we could somehow separate it) northern Germany to the Swedish total.

In historical perspective the Vikings used to go over to great Britan and do whatever they wanted to do. So every century when a British do good in the winter olympics then you don't need much fantasy to understand who the grand grand, grand...grand father came from. Don't ask me about details here.

In response to recent events in Salt Lake City

What do you think is the probability of the following scenario?

Competitor A, who has never used a banned substance before in his life and has just won two olympic gold medals decides that in order to secure his third gold he injects himself with a banned substance a few days before the next event even though this substance in order to have any effect must be taken several times over an extended period of time.
Does anyone seriously think that Mühlegg won his first two gold medals in an honest way?
