What is the purpose of second phone interviews if I'm in the same city as the job is? Does this mean that I am going to be interviewed by someone else?

Either a second opinion or they can't be bothered with getting a interview room for you. Two phone interviews is not uncommon but it depends on the company.

Yeah, some firms hold even three rounds of phone interviews, each progressively more challenging, before going face to face. It's just a filtering mechanism, since full day, in-person interviews are costly to the company.And yeah, you will most likely be interviewed by someone else.

I suggest mid interview, dropping in a couple of quotes like "quite the beast", "i'd like to eat that", may help get the job?

Funny how on every forum there's always people that are really helpful and others that just don't have anything better to do than come up with witty remarks. Especially when answering questions to people who are trying to get an understanding of how this industry works...

One could focus on math and the other on C++ for example2) the first interviewer gave you a marginal evaluation and they want a second person to say yes or no
